An interpreter of sacred mysteries according to Wiki, this is a person who brings religious congregants into the presence of that which is deemed holy, the chief priest at the Eleusinian Mysteries an office created by a powerful family in Greece. Commonly used in Tarot known as a “Major Arcana” (i.e. representing a stage of life) it is the guide towards knowledge, insight and wisdom, this image displays a meditative image similar to one who seeks enlightenment surrounded by the cosmos.
Arthur E. Waite poet and scholar wrote, Hierophant is the channel of grace belonging to the world of institution as distinct from that of Nature, and he is the leader of salvation for the human race at large.
